Flat Feet

FLATFOOT

WHAT IS FLATFOOT AND WHAT CAUSES IT?

Flatfoot is a complex disorder of the foot that presents a variety of diverse symptoms at varying degrees of severity. While there are several different types of flatfoot, there is one characteristic they all share - a partial or total collapse of the arch of the foot.

Flatfoot most commonly begins at adolescence and continues on into adulthood. Ligaments, tendons, and soft tissue that make up the arch of the foot may stretch, tear, or become inflamed.

COMMON SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS

  • Shin pain
  • Pain in the heel, arch of the foot, or alongside the outside of the foot
  • Low back, hip, or knee pain
  • General aching and/or fatigue in the foot or leg
  • Over-pronation

TREATMENT OPTIONS

Because of the varying degrees and types of flatfoot disorders, there are equally varying treatments available, both surgical and non-surgical. Our specialists will perform all necessary diagnostics to determine the severity and appropriate treatment for your condition.

Non-surgical treatment can include activity modifications, custom orthotic devices, medication, physical therapy, shoe modifications, and more.

If your flatfoot does not respond to more conservative treatment measures, our practice can assist with corrective surgery.
