Athlete's Foot

ATHLETE'S FOOT

WHAT IS ATHLETE'S FOOT AND HOW IS IT CAUSED?

Fungal infections affect nearly any part of the body. Fungal infections of the feet are most commonly known as Athlete's Foot. Since fungus thrives in dark, moist, and warn environments, shoes make the perfect atmosphere for this type of skin infection.

Patients may come into contact with this fungus near swimming pools, showers, and locker rooms.

COMMON SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS

  • Itchy, dry, or scaly skin
  • Inflammation, cracks, or blisters
  • May spread infection other parts of the body

TREATMENT OPTIONS

When it comes to Athlete's Foot, prevention is key. Anti-fungal powder, sprays, and creams can help to resolve a current infection, but patients should be mindful to practice a preventative approach to contracting future infections. This can include:

  • Avoid walking barefoot
  • Practice good foot hygiene
  • Thoroughly dry feet
  • Always wear clean, dry socks and shoes throughout the day
  • Wear shower shoes in shared areas
